LaQuan Smith: Ready-To-Wear SS24

LaQuan Smith is well and truly distinguished when it comes to designing a great head-turner. His collections come laced with an unshakable confidence and potent sex appeal that has quickly propelled the Queens-born designer to become a must-see on the NYFW schedule. His front row Monday night was a testament to such. The likes of Mary J. Blige, Saweetie and Offset were amongst a glam crowd who cheered and whistled as models strutted with the swagger of music video vixens.

From crimson strobe lights emerged a bevy of barely-there party dresses cut high up the thigh, wide, ‘90s-style denim cargos and mock croc jackets with Grace Jones shoulders and micro hot pants to match. While such pieces deserve to be soundtracked by a symphony of popping bottles and lit by the glow of a disco ball, there’s a finesse here that elevates Smith’s label from becoming just another party wear brand. Asymmetrical pencil skirts and sheer body con dresses traced the contours of the body elegantly, while space-age leather in shiny pinks, purples and aquarium-gravel blue gave the LaQuan Smith woman superstar qualities. These are clothes to be truly seen in.
