Labrum’s Foday Dumbuya used his AW24 offering to send an important message. Inspired by immigrant artists who have overcome hardship to hone their craft and contribute to the art and fashion industries, the collection incorporated silhouettes and materials from across the globe. A variation of wrapping techniques embodied the theme of community, while a collection highlight, the patchwork Naimbana blazer, used offcuts from the brand’s studio to symbolise togetherness.
Accessories played an important role as Kufi-style headpieces and a wide-reaching bowl hat nodded the people and places that inspired the collection. Labrum’s on-going collaboration with Adidas popped up throughout, either through the footwear – an understated range of Sambas complimented most looks – or in the form of a hat atop with a branded suitcase. The pièce de résistance? A piece entitled ‘Flags’ which saw the flags of different immigrant communities stitched together to create a a massive rectangle carried on the back of one of the last models to walk. It was a powerful ending to the second day of London shows.
