Kris Van Assche Take’s Dior Homme Pre-Fall To Japan

Dior have opened a new store in Toyko’s Ginza neighbourhood. A neighbourhood, that, according to Google, “boasts some of the world’s most upscale shopping, outfitting Tokyo’s designer-conscious clientele for outings to red carpet events and where big spenders can peruse the scene in search of their next big purchase”. Ouuuu. And, to celebrate these new opulent surroundings in the recently opened Ginza Six mall, the house staged a Japanese Dior-aganza which involved a smattering of esteemed guests being treated to a Haute Couture show from Maria Grazia Chiuri on the roof of the mall, before being whisked off to a warehouse in Tokyo Bay to view Kris van Assche’s Dior Homme Pre-Fall collection. Lucky doesn’t cover it. To nick from the release, Kris’ latest offering is “shot through with colour and pattern: touches of electric blue and Monsieur Dior’s 1947 rouge scream red meet white polka dots and the hybrid word newave turns ‘new wave’ into a decorative abstract motif.” Kris showed the collection in teenage-style bedrooms – “I really wanted this to be about teens in their bedroom, fantasizing what their lives are going to be, listening to music, playing records together. It’s really this moment in life where you have to decide what are the dreams that you’re going to stick onto and what it is going to mean to grow up,” he said to WWD. And, if those Tokyo-ites couldn’t have it any better (cat cafes, love hotels, bum-cleaning toilets, Pokemon etc. etc.) they will be able to shop the collection, alongside exclusive styles, from today. Go Japan or go home!
