Girly isn’t a derogative adjective in the design vocabulary of Laura and Deanna Fanning, the Aussie twins who head up Kiko Kostadinov womenswear. The twosome are proving to be quite the hit amongst the young fashion crowd. Thier geometric jackets and trousers are worn to gallery openings and fashion shows alike, and their hit Trivia baguette has been carried by Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid.
The pair have a knack for interweaving references to artistic movements and literature of decades gone by into clothes with a futuristic bent. For their AW22 collection, released digitally over the weekend, the pair looked to Art Deco and the glitz and glam of 1930s Hollywood for an outing that relished in a sugary girlishness. Like tinsel opera gloves, which look like Christmas decorations, or equally fuzzy knitted, paisley-printed dresses in candy colours.
Their twisted frocks came with key-hole cut outs at the chest, and paired alongside bubble skirts, shearling jackets and wispy tops with empire necklines, all dressed in Murano glass bead necklaces. What’s more, the hit Trivia now comes in glittery green, and the pair have introduced a new leather bag, hooked on a wishbone hinge, which collapses when clung to the form of the wearer. Expect to be seeing a lot more of these in the coming months.
