KENZO: Snowbird A Film By Sean Baker

Good things come in small packages, or so they say – like this mini cinematic masterpiece by Sean Baker for Kenzo, released to the world this morning. An extravaganza in 11 minutes. Like last season’s Gregg Araki-directed short which begun with a moment of cheeseburger-based joy, Snowbird too centres around food – this time, a cake. “Snowbird traces the journey of a young woman through a debris-scattered desert community, sharing her homemade cake with the residents along her route,” we are told. Fashion and things we can stuff into our mouths. Our favs. It stars Abbey Lee (her of Mad Max fame) as said young woman, alongside real people from Slab City in California (the desert landscape in which it all takes place) and was shot entirely on an iPhone. The result? “Equal parts daydream, elegiac wanderlust, and subtle comedy,” according to Kenzo. Lovely. “With this one, you’re working with other people’s artistic vision,” said Sean Baker, who also directed the lauded movie Tangerine, “Carol and Humberto designed this entire, this wonderful line. It was really cool to be inspired by somebody else’s art”. So plug in, turn up and escape from your dreary Wednesday morning for 11 minutes 53 seconds. Enjoy.
