Kenzo takes a refreshing approach to its fashion week slot. The house’s designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim look upon each catwalk show as an opportunity to create a bespoke fashion experience. The designers dedicated the show to the Kenzo La Collection Memento No4 collection, which revisits the house’s archives. This time, it was the turn of Kenzo’s famous prints to take centre stage – and how. As the audience settled into pews in a gymnasium, in the Marais. The lights went down and a troupe of dancers broke into frenetic movement. They bounced, swirled, humped, slithered and gyrated – all whilst wearing Kenzo La Collection Memento no.4 (which is available to shop right now). So far so fun, but then it got even more dynamic.
The banks of seating suddenly lurched into movement. We circled and looped, sidled and turned –becoming as much a part of the performance as the colourfully dressed dancers. Fashion nerds took note of the hyper realistic tomato print (first seen in the men’s 1992 collection) which appeared on shirts shorts and dresses. The jumping tiger (AW83) now roared across the back of a bomber jackets. There were also abundant K motifs and leopard prints. It was bright, colourful, joyful and full of optimism. Here we were, whizzing around a stage, living in the moment. What a ride! The show was transporting in more ways than one.
