Kenzo have produced something rather beautiful here- a film yes, but more of a joint creative expression, combining the intoxicating hues of Kenzo’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, the angelic tones of Karen O and Michael Kiwanuka, with the visionary eye of Director Ana Lily Amirpour, she of Iranian vampire flick ‘Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’ (2014). To call this a seasonal campaign film just doesn’t quite do this piece justice. ‘Yo! My Saint’ centres on a photographer (played by Alex Zhang Hungtai) who is troubled by thoughts of his past. Having committed the cardinal sin of falling in love with not just one, but two of his muses, he finds himself incapable of freeing himself from their piercing gazes. Even when trying to kick back with a bit of after-work karaoke with pals, escapism in its purest form, his voice is drowned out by that of his muse, who appears on screen, miming over Karen O’s sedative-like song.
