Jacquemus: Ready-To-Wear SS22

For its first voyage away from France, Jacquemus took its iconic pop runway to Oahu, Hawaii. The collection, entitled Le Splash, was fittingly staged on a golden sandy shore beneath the verdant Ko’olau mountains. But just as the models were ready, the show was halted by a downpour: a crisis for the clothes and the frow, but to locals the rain came as a good omen. Jacquemus took care in staging the collection in this tropical paradise; casting models native to the island and curating a guest list of largely stars from the Asia-Pacific region – including Bretman Rock and Blackpink’s Jennie Kim.

Jacquemus may have barely left a footprint in the sands of Oahu, but the collection made serious impression with its vibrant blues, greens and oranges reminiscent of the works of David Hockney. Glass embellishments by Canadian artist Tanya Lyons emulated water droplets for an aquatic take on suiting. Classic Jacquemus bags – Le Bambinou, La Vague and Sac Round – came in elevated renditions this season, with new shapes and constructions for the jet-set.

Carefree, vacation bliss was encapsulated via the laid-back ruching and draping of terry towelling and utilitarian cargo, contrasted with slinky, sensual cut-outs and nettings. Awash with contoured neoprene, swimwear and nods to water-sports – the Le Splash collection makes for one fine packing list for wherever your next vacay takes you.
