Issey Miyake: Ready-to-Wear SS21

We can all do with Marie Kondo-ing our lifestyles here and there, Issey Miyake included. Upon shipping the brand’s last Ready-to-wear collection to Paris back in February, designer Satoshi Kondo (not related to Marie) became overwhelmed at the sheer volume of clothes that were to be transported to the other side of the globe from Tokyo. It was here the Issey Miyake team decided moving forward, the brand would make its clothes as compact as possible.

Displayed here in an exhibition-cum-catwalk, this season’s fashions were designed with true innovation at heart. Acidic hued raincoats rolled into tiny backpacks, dresses with handkerchief hemlines could be knotted into smaller forms and pleats please tops shrunk into shell-like entities. There was an elegant origami feel to the whole thing. There were also a series of form body vests which actually shape to the body of the wearer; equipped with front and back zippers. As captivating as it was bloody clever, would you expect anything less from Issey Miyake?
