Issey Miyake New Flagship Store Designed By Tokujin Yoshioka

I was in Liberty yesterday and saw a lady wearing an Issey Miyake scarf. It was black and pleated, obviously. Jealous of her, I was. Irrelevant though this anecdote is, it does serve to illustrate both my and, more collectively, our excitement about Issey Miyake’s new flagship store chez Ten. It’s located at 10 (we’re already fans) Brook Street, a stone’s throw from our Soho residence and designed by Tokujin Yoshioka who, according to his Wikipedia page is one of the “100 most respected Japanese in the world”. Impressive, no? Aside from this, Yoshioka’s other accomplishments include art housed in MoMA, Centre Pompidou and V&A. Also impressive. And now he has the Issey Miyake Brook Street store to add to his glittering Wikipedia page. The aluminium-panelled store opens on Saturday and will house the brand’s ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance collections, as well as Homme Plissé Issey Miyake – the first time it has been stocked outside of Japan. Personally I’ll be on the lookout for a scarf like my friend had in Liberty.
