Quaquaversal was the name that Iris van Herpen gave her Spring collection. Apparently this means “going off in all directions”. We’ll take her word for it. It was all about the way she collaborates – with scientists, with artists – and this time with actress Gwendoline Christie. And how can we think of anything but Game of Thrones when we see her? Especially laid out on a stone plinth, as she was, surrounded by animatronic trees that wove a dress around her as if my magic. And we don’t even watch it. But this was like Game of Thrones seen from the future – for these were a very modern warrior women – ones clad in chain mail, leather and cobweb-style lace, or in laser cut gowns that flowed and shone like molten metal. And on their feet were high platforms that made them look as if they were hovering above the ground. It was a powerful image – Brienne of Tarth (we googled it) would be proud.
