Watches and jewellery are the metiers where dreams come true. These are worlds where beauty, craft and creative audacity combine to produce some of the most fantastical objects on earth.
Looking through the pages of the supplement brings a sense of how-did-they-do-that awe. Take Boucheron’s Impermanence Poppy flower brooch. It’s made with titanium coated in Vanta Black, a special substance that absorbs 99.965 per cent of visible light, and then studded with diamonds that sparkle with an almost impossible brightness in the darkest of settings with the extreme contrast of light and shadow creating the most beguiling beauty. This idea is explored in another way by De Beers, which has set rough and polished stones together for the 20th anniversary of its celebrated Talisman collection: raw and refined equals ravishing.
