Let’s call this one a feast for the senses. A sort of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, if Willy were to to give up on the world of industrial chocolate production and instead start producing fine silks. Except, of course, this was not Willy Wonka, this was Hermès and their party, Crazy Carré. Happening until the wee hours of last night, they transformed The Old Selfridges Hotel into what they called a “wild silk party”. Because, as you all know, Hermès are the queens of all things silky. This was, unsurprisingly, my first wild silk party. Or, as we might call it, a silky wonderland. An elaborate silk universe. Like we’d just hatched from a cocoon. It began with, as all good parties should, dry ice. A dramatic entrance. And then: birds. Well, models dressed as birds. Sat on swings. Copious champagne. A maze of rooms, filled with wondrous Hermès-based goodies. We threw eggs filled with paint whilst a man read our splatters and told us our future. Faux tattoos. A big, kaleidoscopic room of lights that Dominic had a wee dance in. And then: performances! Can can dancers, rising star and songstress Mabel and a DJ set from the legendary Neneh Cherry. A bit like a very classy version of the Moulin Rouge. Fabuleux!
