ICEBERG: Menswear AW19

Are you a daredevil on in the piste, with a penchant for a black run? Or do you prefer to keep it more arès-ski? Whether you’re more partial the streets or the slopes, either way you’ll be in for a treat either way with Iceberg’s AW19 collection. Creative director James Long took us along with the Iceberg family on a high energy free riding tour of the Italian Alps, and it really wasn’t for the fainthearted.

There was a feeling of a 1980s Winter Olympics opening ceremony to the show and the clothes as the models stomped down the graphic Iceberg branded carpet. The 80s laxed layering recalling the onscreen attire of 1988 Jamaican bobsleigh team in the 1993 film Cool Runnings. When you’re taking to the slopes, exposed to near arctic conditions you’ve got to stay warm and Long had it sorted. There were a primary colours, patchwork prints and “blizzard of crazy puzzle graphics” splashed across chunky jumpers and knits, velour tracksuits, parkas, puffer jackets and zip up gym jackets, all layered over an array of polo neck thermal tops.

If I’m the unlikely instance that for a split second you might have forgotten which show you were watching, you’d soon be reminded as Iceberg’s branding ran wild across sweatbands, bucket hats, splashed across clothes and printed on handbags. A new, as Long put it in the show notes: “punk-grunge” logo, realised in angular graffiti tag-like scrawling script peaked across kitted hoodies and zip up jackets. Even those who would always take a hot holiday over a winter break might have been persuaded or at least left craving a hot toddy. Grab your skis, you’ve pulled!
