After coming together for the first time in 2016 to curate an art installation for the Pheonix Unit – a rehabilitation facility for patients diagnosed with Schizophrenia, in hopes of transforming the space – friends Niamh White and Tim A. Shaw have united again to curate their next project, titled Hospital Rooms. This heart-warming and inspiring project is an exhibition uniting art and psychiatric intensive care. This collaborative art project brings together three London NHS Trusts to present 18 groundbreaking artworks, by 18 renowned artists, spread across three male psychiatric intensive care units inside of London hospitals.
For the project, each artist spent time with patients in their units and led creative sessions with different groups to help inform their works. Each artist took note and listened to patients’ experiences and drew on the talent set inside of the hospital walls. The diverse range of artists aimed to create artworks that bring a new sense of imagination, perspectives and elements of the outside world onto the walls of the hospital. Artists working on this special project include British artist and 10 Magazine contributor David Lock, illustrator and designer Giles Deacon and multimedia artist Chila Burman. Soon to be permanently installed on the walls of the psychiatric wards, the public can view the works at an exhibitioCork Street Galleries until December 3.
