With the catwalk set up as an equestrian exercise ring, the scene was set for an Hermès show that had functionality at its heart and luxury in its soul.
Felted horse blankets were the starting point for enveloping leather lined coats that unzipped into blankets – just one of the many multi-way ideas Nadège Vanhée put into this collection. It thrilled with dynamic, can-do pieces, crafted the Hermès way. Functionality marries both timelessness and modernity. Which was the keynote of this collection. There were gaberdine reversible overcoats trimmed with leather, wrap-over and lace-up wrap skirts.
There was an everyday dynamism to leather lined denim, cosy turtlenecks, quilted leather shorts, cropped leather kick flares and long line bomber jackets in silk. Stretch velvet catsuits with peek-a-boo zippered seams, worn with leather hot pants injected a youthful clubland vibe to the haute house. The famous Hermès workmanship was evident in intricately stitched and perforated leather jackets and skirts and new boxy vanity bags which vied with a host of Birkin variations. The models cantered past in flat riding boots, determined, confident, strident, strong and adventurous. Hermès through and through.
