It wasn’t a light shower but a cinematic downpour that climaxed the Hermès show Saturday afternoon, as Nadège Vanhee unveiled her latest collection for the house amidst a man-made rainstorm. It was a fittingly dramatic backdrop for a collection that came laced with a need for speed. The designer had been thinking about horse riding and motorcycling, and the sort of gear you can wear to do both. Though you’d be a fool to do either donning such gorgeous clothes.
The collection was populated by buttery leathers in aubergine, chocolate brown, punchy reds and sorbet yellow. Models came out wearing ribbed riding trousers paired with brilliant biker boots and equestrian jackets that sprouted with pony hair and puffy jumpsuits that were both practical and elegant. Elsewhere, pencil skirts that unzipped right up the front and skin-tight, leather vests with buckle detailings brought a quietly sensual air to the collection, while studded leather jackets, trench coats, skirts and ribbed dresses evoked a rebellious side to the Hermès woman.
