GUEST POST BY RICHARD GRAY: Do advertising images need clothes?

These are some old advertising campaigns by Comme des Garcons but recent ones from the Japanese design house, specifically, their SHIRT line, are as clotheless as these. 

Comme is as much about energy or as Rei Kawakubo puts it “power” than fancy clothes in fancy campaigns. It’s an interesting take on marketing when you consider that an ad campaign is the one chance a designer has to control their image – THE ONE CHANCE – but Kawakubo doesn’t take it.
