Gucci Celebrates Chinese New Year with a Mickey Mouse Collection

We’ve already welcomed the new decade, but we get to do it all other again on January 25th when Chinese New Year officially takes place. 2020 is the year of the rat, and whilst you may not be the biggest rodent lover, the animal carries characteristics of an animal with “spirit, wit, alertness, delicacy, flexibility and vitality.” We could all use a little more of all listed above, no? Alessandro Michele plans to celebrate this with a collection of Gucci goodies featuring one furry creature everybody loves, Walt Disney’s True Original, Mickey Mouse.

Everything from trainers, t-shirts, and sliders to wool cardigans, pyjama sets, and bathing suits all feature the cartoon in some form. There’s also a terrific collection of beige backpacks, wallets and luggage plastered in the GG interlocking logo which finds itself dotted within a sea of Mickey’s. Where would be more appropriate to shoot the campaign than in Disneyland? Lensed by on-going collaborator Harmony Korine – who also shot the brand’s holiday campaignGucci ambassador and actress Ni Ni, actor Earl Cave and designer, stylist and poet Zoë Bleu can all be seen acting like big kids at the California theme park. The final outcome certainly makes it like the happiest place on earth, as the trio ride the teacups, get soaking wet on the log flumes and even snatch a photo op with Mickey Mouse himself. We hope the exquisitely dressed group stuck to the theme park rules and kept their hands, feet and Gucci bags firmly inside the cart at all times…
