Fashion can often be all about fun, games and fabulous shoes, but it’s also an industry with a big heart. Chime for Change was founded 2013 by Gucci as a global campaign that’s putting female voices from around the world into the spotlight. It’s been pushing the ideas of global gender equalities by partnering up with organizations like UNICEF and collaborating with stars like Beyoncé (who is one of the co-founders) on concerts and art projects. This year, Chime for Change is getting a new chapter.
“The fearlessness of this generation to express themselves gives me hope that a future of freedom and equality is possible,” says Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele of the new initiative which is currently being promoted via ArtWalls in London, Milan, NYC, Taiwan and Hong kong. The large-scale murals, created by artist MP5, are reflecting this genderless idea of our community, one which has also been part of Michele’s ethos since becoming the Creative Director of the house back in 2015. To coincide with this new chapter, Chime for Change are releasing a short film on the topic by Jade Jackman and Irregular Labs “The Future is Fluid”, which originally premiered during the last Sundance Film Festival. The first issue of Chime zine is also being released and is available from the Gucci Wooster bookshop in New York, while copies of it are being distributed to universities across the world in partnership with 1 Granary. In addition to the 425 non-profit projects they’ve already supported, there’s also several new charities and initiatives Chime for Change is donating to, all of which are available to explore here. And now that we all restored a bit of faith in the big industry that is fashion, the world instantly seems a better place.
