GUCCI ARTISAN EVENT

Let me be real with you for just a minute; I’ve never made anything by hand in my life. I once tried to make a ham sandwich but it wasn’t much of a success, so I had the chef whip me up a light snack instead. When I was a child all my school projects were outsourced to workshops in the far East. At a push I can stir a sugar into a coffee but it’s better if I get Natalie to do it for me.

This is why it was such a joy to drop by the Gucci store on Thursday to see how their artisans make a Gucci handbag; in a word, it’s intense. Intense! One might imagine a Gucci factory but no – a lovely Italian man or lady has actually spent hours and hours hand making it for you, lovingly smoothing, stitching and stroking the leather into a vision of luxury perfection. The leathers are beyond – my favourite was a sort of peach blush crocodile number. It made me understand why Gucci bags are so prized, and also the new value I can place upon Natalie’s sugar stirring.

Envision if you will the Gucci workshops full of artisans lovingly crafting your bag, and then in your mind’s eye see me strolling up the stairs of a friend’s private jet, multiple custom made Gucci handbags in mauve swinging on my tanned and slender arms, whilst below me Natalie loads my enormous set of custom crafted Gucci luggage into the hold. We board the plane, and from my tote I pull out a custom made hip flask (crocodile, naturally), from which I pour a martini mix made by my maid into – well actually I just pour it straight into my mouth and being to cackle. Loudly.
