Gloss: The Work of Chris von Wangenheim

Gloss. What a fabulous name. We love the decisiveness of a monosyllable here at 10. Gloss is the first book on the work of notorious photographer Chris von Wangenheim, a man who came to epitomise the glamour and excess of the 1970s, documenting an era of punk, porn and sexual revolution in the process. If you are wondering what to expect from the Rizzoli-published tome, let us pass over to Marc Jacobs, who’s hosting the launch party – we like to think the dress code that he included on the invitation (handily leaked by The Cut) can also be read as a rather snappy summary of the book itself. Caps lock used by Marc for emphasis:

FUR COATS OVER LINGERIE, LIP GLOSS, JERRY HALL SIDE-SWEPT HAIR, SEQUINS, GOLD LAMÉ TURBANS, PATTI HEARST SYMBIONESE LIBERATION ARMY GEAR, ROGUE, ROLLERINA CHIC, SHEER HAREM PANTS, MINI SKIRTS AND MUSCULAR LEGS, PLATINUM RECORDS AS HEAD GEAR, SEQUINS, GRACE JONES BUTCH REALNESS, GLOSS-Y SKIN, BLEACHED EYEBROWS, SLITS, RIDING IN ON A WHITE HORSE, SEQUINS, SKY HIGH STILETTOS, MIRRORED AVIATORS, METAL MESH, COWL NECKLINE HALTERS, OR EYES OF LAURA MARS CHIC. NO FLAT SHOES. NO MATTE SURFACES. NO NATURAL LOOKS.

Gloss: The Work of Chris von Wangenheim by Mauricio Padilha and Roger Padilha, foreword by Stephen Klein, is published by Rizzoli USA.
