Givenchy: Ready-To-Wear AW19

What does elegance mean in 2019? Clare Waight Keller has an answer at Givenchy, where a sleek, sartorial approach rules. Waight Keller understands the importance of line and works with the renowned Givenchy couture atelier to perfect her jacket shapes. That extra care is paying off for the ready-to-wear. Along a thin black strip of catwalk her Givenchy woman strode wearing tailored coats and trousers suits with pronounced curving shoulders. This is not bog standard but a cut above. Waight Keller is of the persuasion that everything’s better belted. No wonder Givenchy is fast becoming the go to label for women who want to look pulled together.

She’s also a considerate designer. Plissé printed high neck dresses had an appealing femininity, but you could imagine a woman pulling one out of a suitcase, stepping into it and heading straight out to a party – no fuss. There were sportswear moments too – a puffa coat over a tailored suit – which will play out well IRL. That balance of the fabulous and the for real is fast becoming Waight Keller’s signature. There’s strength in those shoulders.
