Look familiar? Eagle-eyed fashion fans will recognise this rather nice selection of dresses because they were dotted in amongst Givenchy’s menswear show in Paris a couple of weeks ago. Here, they get their solo outing, situated upon the bodies of a selection of models du jour and captured in photographic form, shown also en mannequin during Couture week on Wednesday. There’s a sniff of Ancient Greece to the proceedings, is there not? Call them modern day goddesses. Which is obviously a befitting look for us here at 10, being as our surrogate mother-slash-Editrix-in-Chief Sophia Neophitou is a bonafide Grecian Goddess. She’s probably in guide books or something. Anyway, it’s the drapes of fabrics, twisted straps, asymmetric pleating, column-shaped dresses. But, as befitting a modern goddess, there were trousers too, revealed under floor-length top that split along the sides (wear sans-trous for a saucier look). And tailoring – a long coats with a zips along the waist, a mannish blazer that sort of flaps open to reveal mirror-ball detailing underneath. A bit like a glamourous beetle. Riccardo Tisci credited the shapes to Hubert de Givenchy’s archive – particularly the large bows that sat flat to the body, making me think of a large, human-sized expensively wrapped present.
