At the beginning of September Giorgio Armani held a party on his yacht, which was moored in Venice where he’d just staged a spectacular fashion show. Guests got a rare glimpse inside one of the biggest and most elegant superyachts on the sea. It is the designer’s happy place and his most private retreat, where he can indulge his love of the water. That love was on show at his Giorgio Armani show. An elegant wave washed over his Via Borgonuovo show venue, where the designer has an apartment on the top floor.
The movement and shimmer of the sea inspired a myriad of textures and techniques. The level of craft on display was mesmerising. Shimmering sheer blouses mimicked the way the sun bounces off a placid sea, tufted embroidery on a strapless gown suggested choppier waters. Painterly waves were rendered in intricate beading and a trench was made from rippling strips of leather bonded onto a lightweight base. For the crystal-laden finale, iridescent embroideries in watery shades, glistened with extreme lightless and delicacy. Acqua di Gio indeed.
