An ultimate liquid golden Giorgio Armani utopia was felt this season, as Mr Armani indulged in a mighty fine collection for SS23. Fil d’Or, or ’Golden Thread’ was a continuation from past collections, but lighter, as the women almost levitated through the underground room of Mr Armani’s private home in Milan. “The essence is a certain purity and the glimmer of gold,” said the house. “There is a very subtle shimmering of gold that crosses the whole collection, giving it a very charming and unique light. A light that calls to mind the sand of the desert.” Charmed we were.
Cardigans were cropped with flashes of sparkles sprinkled, amethyst purple and ink blue dresses were so fine and sheer they appeared suspended in the air, and a sense of tranquility was felt on embroidered leaves and blossoming flowers. The show felt like a meditation to the audience (which included Lauren Hutton, Irina Shayk and Cate Blanchett) – and meditating in Armani silk satin is our kind of mindfulness. The final eight women stopped in their tracks for the finale, each wearing variations of desert-sand inspired champagne gowns that glimmered slightly golden in the light, crystals and sequins twinkling. The show solidified the trends we’d been seeing in Milan: cropped jackets are cool again, sequins and sparkles are being seriously celebrated and embroidered flowers are blooming everywhere.
