Giorgio Armani has spent the past 48 years weaving a sartorial story comparable only to the greatest names throughout fashion’s rather colourful history. Writing and rewriting each design, narrating a certain, classic style synonymous with the house and crafting new plot points every season, the result is something streamlined, genuine and truly beautiful. Mr. Armani’s SS24 menswear offering stems from the same tireless exigency: “to clothe the present with a vibrant, authentic sign fashioned from dignity and elegance”.
Aptly entitled Weaving a Story, reiterated codes of Giorgio Armani dress turn a new page: forms are soft and elongated, intertwining threads are either actually woven into the tailored blazers, shirting and billowing trousers on offer or conjured through prints that imitate knots. Woven with a summery feel, geometric devices bring a bit of rhythm into the mix too. Slouchy suits are complemented by oversized travel bags, cotton waistcoats and netted vests rest under crochet crossbody bags and cobblestone-effect suit jackets while shoes and sandals are characterised by subtle knots and intricate weaves similar to earlier material motifs. The sense of levity that carves through the collection is almost palpable; ensembles whirl, dance and bounce with every step.
As the charming promenade petered out, blue, sand and natural tones transported the clothes to chromatic completion. This was Giorgio Armani’s story, unfurling with the ardour of an epic stage play.
