We wish we were Valli girls. They get the loveliest dresses, the prettiest embroideries, and the best seats – Lee Radziwill, sister-of-you-know-who and Giambattista Valli’s unofficial house mother, was sat front row this parade of dresses made in her image. Namely, slender, beautiful, and very very rich. There was a focus own cocktail, but not single-minded: the Valli girl has other things to do, like shop for diamonds (maybe in a slender embroidery-splatted coat to the knee), or maybe lunch (pushing a salad leaf around a plate at L’Avenue in a matchy-matchy floral scrambled two-piece). Would she go on the school run in darling Giamba’s patent leather biker jacket and pleated white chiffon skirt? Possibly. Or supervise the nanny doing it, at least.
