It wouldn’t be a Giambattista Valli couture show without a large explosion of tulle. And there was plenty of that here, mostly in the form of a breathtaking yellow gown which was, we reckon, about the size of the average London flat. Thus wondering if perhaps a Valli dress would make a more economically savvy living solution. A bit like sleeping in a large cloud. Not that, we should note, the gathered crowd of international glamazons have such spacial issues – this is fantasy dressing – a land where the bigger the dress, the louder their admiring coos. And here, there was plenty of frouf to go around. But Giambattista knows that man cannot survive on frouf alone, hence the selection of other beautiful goodies that glided down the catwalk – ruffled-collar dresses with crystal embellishments, shorter, almost 1960s-style, shifts, reams of exquisite floral fabrics. Getting something a bit Russian, turn-of-the-century Tsarina about it. Accessorise with large Faberge egg.
