Gareth Pugh is heading for pastures new. This season the designer is moving his show from The City of Lights to The Big Apple. He’s promised an “immersive live performance” that will include both video and live dancers. “Fashion is very stuck in its ways,” the designer told The New York Times, “and I wanted to present something that would make people think, and maybe move the needle a bit.” Famously conceptual, Pugh cited the late Louise Wilson (his course director at Central Saint Martins) as inspiration behind this decision. “[She] used to talk about the importance of how clothes are presented and how that had been lost, and everyone just did the same thing. This is a chance to change that.” “I know it’s a big risk,” he continued, “but I think it’s good to light a fire under your bum every once in a while.” Well said, Gareth.
