Fondazione Sozzani Open Their Second Gallery, with an Exhibition by Kris Ruhs in Paris

Almost three decades after opening her first gallery space in Milan, Carla Sozzani’s Fondazione Sozzani has opened their second destination, this one in Paris. Set in a 19th-century building, the 10,000 square-foot monochromatic hangar-like space resides in the 18th arrondissement on 22 Rue Marx Dormoy, just a stone’s throw from Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord. The gallery opened to the public this Tuesday, October 15th with an inaugural exhibition of works by artist Kris Ruhs titled Creation Language.

“Since opening the Gallery in Milano nearly thirty years ago, I wish now to create another challenge,” says Sozzani. “It is time to expand the cultural journey of the Fondazione in another space, in a city dear to me.” Since established in 2016, Fondazione Sozzani has been ardently promoting culture through fashion, design, art and photography, as has assumed patronage of Galleria Carla Sozzani.

In a nice circle of events, when the Galleria Carla Sozzani first opened its doors in 1990, Ruhs’ work was also the subject of its inaugural show. For Creation Language, the American artist’s monumentally immersive three-dimensional pieces surround the visitor, viscerally confronting space, substance and surface. Confronted with Ruhs’ process and the abstract multi-media works aim to challenge understandings of phenomenological perceptions and subjective experience, through the use of his artistic language. Following on from Creation Language, the next exhibition to fill the gallery in November will be The World Press Photo’s setup. Watch this space – literally.

Kris Ruhs’ ‘Creation Language’ is open at Faondazione Sozzani, 75012 Paris until Sunday, 20th October.
