Fun history fact: ancient Mayan warriors would dress themselves in the skins and furs of beasts they had killed, believing that by wearing them, they would embody the spirit of the animal in battle. That’s about £350 worth of BA Anthropology degree right there. Money well spent. And, whilst we’re not exactly known for our knowledge of ancient civilisations, the latest Berluti ad campaign, the first under Haider Ackermann, is putting us in mind of such things. Shot by Robin Broadbent, the still life snaps, focusing on key accessories rather than actual clothes, feature lots of alligator hide; on boots and in the form of some kind of hip-flask sheath. Perfect to unleash our inner alligator, etc. etc.
Also included in the new campaign – Berluti’s signature Alessandro Oxford shoe, and we do mean signature, because it features the engraved handwritten scribbles of the house’s Scritto design. Tradition was clearly on Haider’s mind for his first season, saying “To try and seduce with the essential was the approach I wanted to have for this very first season”. One of our fave seduction techniques as well.
