Fila And Aries Team Up On A Sportswear Collection Inspired By Greek Mythology

The past two years have seen Fila celebrate its 110th anniversary with slew of innovative collaborations, channeling its sportswear heritage via unexpected couplings with some of the industry’s most progressive labels. There’s been a warped team-up with Glenn Marten’s Y/Project, a tennis bonanza with MSGM, and most recently, a slew of sporty ballgowns debuted during Roksanda’s AW22 show in London back in February.

Now it’s the turn of Sofia Prantera’s luxe sportswear brand Aries. Lauded for its skate-wear collections which include tie dye trackies, graphic tees and cool denim, Aries is no stranger to a collab either, teaming up with everyone from Vans through to Havana Club in the past.

Dubbed Vela Nera, which translates from Italian to Black Sail, the cross-cultural fusion between Aries and Fila marries an Italian approach to detail with visual homages to the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

The basis of the link-up was a sailing jacket Fila created for world-record breaker Giovanni Soldini in 1996, informing a series of technical outerwear pieces cut from specialist fabrics. These are joined by a series of unisex, sailing-inspired sportswear separates, alongside signature Aries tracksuits fashioned in Grecian marble patterns, and louche tailoring drenched in graphics that nod to Greek mythology. Highlights include techy mini-dresses in classic Fila red and black colourways, utility jackets stamped with a duo logo between the brands and a cracking selection of swimwear. A palate cleanser for your summer wardrobe.
