The Fila x Haider Ackermann Link-Up Is Built For Raving

Have you ever wondered what Haider Ackermann sportswear looks like? His collaboration with Fila introduced a previously unseen side to the designer’s aesthetic. 

Ackermann is a runner and used that as his touchstone for ice-white running tights, fluttering nylon coats, keyhole, apple-green mini dresses and onesies, slinky knitted tracksuits and bodycon for boys and girls. “It’s a new approach,” he said of his first foray into the sports realm. There was none of the brashness so common in this genre. Instead, sporty Haider is all about a dynamic, high-tech elegance in a colour palette that’s atypical for sportswear of brilliant white, coral, sky blue, mocha and lilac. None of it looked retro although Ackermann was inspired by Fila’s archive and the standout style of its most famous 1970s ambassador, Björn Borg. 

“It’s a city of the youth and I want to embrace the youth,” he said of his decision to show the collection in Manchester. Its literature, sport and music scenes were also important touchstones, although the designer admitted he’d missed out on dancing at The Haçienda. “I raved in Rotterdam,” he said. 

Penned as an unapologetically British tale, fashion editor Tara St Hill applies a fresh context, and touch of bubble gum pop, to the collection inside 10 Magazine Issue 70 – ROMANCE, REBEL, RESISTANCE. Immortalised by photographer Jesse Glazzard, the pair called together a diverse troupe of models to celebrate the sporty link-up and bring you back to muddled summer club nights in city’s up and down the UK. Multidisciplinary creative James Corbin poses alongside UK rapper Double Cup Kase, as well as models Jordan Charles, Jade O’Belle, and Carley Dean Sayerand, amongst a slew of London-based creatives.
