With his sophomore collection for Ferragamo, Maximillian Davis continued to carve out his distinct branch of clean-cut elegance which has already began to win over Hollywood (both Uma Thurman and Hunter Schafer were amongst the famous faces on the front row). The brand’s beginnings as a favourite name amongst 1950s starlets has guided his vision so far, as Davis fine-tuned and modernised mid-century silhouettes like cocooning outerwear and ball skirts with a precision that oozes with confidence. There’s a strictness to his approach to cut and silhouette which proves deeply impressive.
Suiting came razor sharp with angular lapels and sloped shoulders, met with elevated sportswear in punchy hues and the most terrific coats – ideal for young shoppers looking to smarten up their wardrobe. A retro-futurism emerged via rounded jackets and liquid-y, lamé minidresses that looked like they’d been fashioned from melted mercury. Standout accessories like sloped heels and supersized iterations of the brand’s Wanda bag were “playful objects” said Davis backstage, as the design team continued to toy with proportions and shapes in ways that were both clever and fun. Their strangeness makes a fitting accent to Davis’ pared-back glamour, which is shaping up to be quite the head-turner.
