Kim Kardashian West has a habit of breaking the internet, so does Kim Jones. So when the two Kims came together yesterday to announce that they were collaborating, we’re shocked the worldwide web didn’t crumble into a trillion tiny pieces.
After much speculation in the fashion sphere – plus an unfortunate leak via a UK-based personal shopper – Skims and Fendi have debuted a collaborative capsule collection designed under the direction of both Jones and Kardashian, dropping worldwide November 9.
In their shared cover story for WSJ. Magazine, the pair reveal that talks for the collaboration began last December when Jones flew to Calabasas for a meeting with Kardashian after noticing how infatuated his team were with Skims’ inclusive shapewear. “The idea for the collaboration came about when my team and I were sitting around a table at the studio in Rome,” explains Jones in a statement. “Suddenly, all the women went silent and started looking at their phones. I didn’t know what was going on, but they were waiting for the launch of the new Skims collection. It was then that I thought: let’s do something together.”
The collaboration comes mere weeks after Jones and Donatella Versace closed out Milan Fashion Week with their Fendace designer ‘swap’. At the time, it was highly rumoured that Skims would be joining the action after the trio were pictured together back in July. Yet Fendi x Skims is its own collection, made up of form-fitting dresses fashioned from velvet and leather, jersey beach- and shapewear stamped with a Fendi x Skims hybrid monogram and recycled nylon sportswear. The collection comes in signature Skims naturals and Fendi earthy hues, met with crimson red and lilac.
As reported by WSJ. Magazine, the collection’s sensual dresses begin at $950, leggings at $1,100 and puffer jackets will cost you $2,950. After one of the collection’s standout leather wraparound dresses? That will set you back $4,200. Each piece was sculpted onto Kardashian’s frame directly in a 10-hour fitting in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last March, and is the first time Kardashian’s billion-dollar shapewear brand has ventured into ready-to-wear.
“Kim Jones and I have been close friends for years,” writes Kardashian, “I love his creative spirit and how he understands luxury in a way that makes total sense for how people want to dress. He works extremely hard, and as a workaholic myself, I recognise and admire the passion he puts into everything he does.”
“My Fendi is about creating something for every woman, every different shape – and that’s something at the heart of Skims too,” adds Jones.
