The body in its most liberated state was on the mind of Feben as she crafted her SS24 outing. She defined the collection’s pillars as “physicality, strength, provocation, vulnerability and desire”, citing the artist Carrie Mae Weems as a key inspiration.
“In her ‘Museums Series’, the artist Carrie Mae Weems places her Black body outside institutions, always in a black dress. Those museums are like temples, and it made me think about where I place my own body, such as printed onto dresses, or on the schedule of London Fashion Week,” wrote the designer in her show notes.
Feben screen-printed her own naked body in painterly formations across column dresses in defiance of the pressure she felt growing up engulfed by unrealistic body standards. In her go-to twist dresses, models of different shapes and sizes looked regal, joined by a stunning parade of beaded fringed frocks, buttery, oversized leather jackets and wispy chiffon dresses. Another solid collection from one of London’s most elegant designers.
