Who said opulence was just for women? There was no lack of opulence, or indeed diamonds, at Wales Bonner’s presentation at Fashion East. As a designer, Grace, who graduated from Central Saint Martins last year, seeks to explore the space between European luxury and black identity. You can see this in her collection, from the diamonds to the casting of all black models and the influence of Malian photographer Malick Sibide. It was sincere and sincerely well-executed, in terms of concept, production and presentation. Elsewhere at Fashion East, Alan Crocetti gave us three, vest-wearing bicep-bearing black-clad models sat on podiums like Greek antiquities. In a sea of mirrors and TV screens, Roxanne Farahmand blurred the lines between fashion presentation and art installation. Fashion East promise fresh young talent, and this afternoon, that’s exactly what they gave us.
