The full list of nominees for the Fashion Awards was announced this morning and alongside familiar awards show contenders (you can’t argue with the numbers and the bold new carbon-neutral stance, but could Gucci’s Marco Bizzarri win Business Leader of the year again?) there are some notable new names. Daniel Lee, whose new take on Bottega Veneta has become the de facto front row uniform, picked up three nominations for Accessories Designer of the Year, Womenswear Designer of the Year and the big one, Designer of the Year. Bottega is also nominated in the Brand of the Year category so it’s hard to imagine the talented Lee going home empty-handed on December 2nd. We are also heading for a major Rihanna red carpet moment, with Fenty leading the Urban Luxe category. Could John Galliano return to the winner’s podium for his highly creative work at Maison Margiela? If he did scoop the award, it would be the most public display of acceptance for the designer since his disgrace in 2011. Nominated in the British Designer of the Year category, he’s up against Lee, Jonathan Anderson, Simone Rocha and Richard Quinn, who comes into the category for the first time. Simon Porte Jacquemus is another name to break through to fashion’s top tier. The handsome Frenchman is nominated in the Accessories and Brand categories. The Model of the Year category will also be hotly contested with a smart, empowered list of nominees (Adesuwa Aighewi, Adut Akech, Adwoa Aboah, Kaia Gerber, Winnie Harlow) who stand for more than just their beauty. The awards night raises money for the BFC. Last year the organisation raised over £2.3 million for its charities and business support initiatives and allocated £1.1 million directly to scholars and designer businesses.
