Oh, how nice it would be to know that, if we were to need wool-based products for the next two years, we would have wool-experts Woolmark to call upon? Not that, we should note, we have much need for cutting-edge wool fabrics (we tend to buy our clothes ready made), but Facetasm do. Hence our delight at the news that they’ll be teaming up with wool experts The Woolmark Company for two capsule collections, starting from their Paris Men’s Collection in January. The deal came about when Facetasm founder and designer Hiromichi Ochiai visited The Wool Lab in Australia, shown in the above film, where he was introduced to the Woolmark’s most innovative fabrics and yarns as well as their production chain – which is all a very roundabout way of saying he got to hold a baby lamb. A deal-breaker if ever there was one.
“I saw how much the sheep farmers have loved the sheep, nature and their own land over generations” said Ochiai of his trip. “It was such a precious experience for me to actually talk to farmers and experience how Merino wool is produced…I would like to deliver the story behind Merino wool and incorporate this invaluable experience in my creations”.
We can’t wait to see what they come up with – roll on January.
