Beams of glorious colour flooded the cathedral-like Etro show space. The models strode through the light wearing clothes designed for better times. There was an innate optimism in Kean Etro’s vision for AW21. He showed us a not too distant future where we will see and be seen in elegant, sumptuous clothes. The street will become a carnival of personal style, iconoclasm and individuality. Classic distinctions between formal and informal disappear. Wear what you love. Love what you wear.
That’s easy when it’s Etro, a house built on beautiful fabrics. A paisley total look featuring baggy Bermudas and a quilted coat? A patterned robe thrown over a hoodie? Vivid, paisley knits made from recycled wool? Why not? Throw in a plethora of small, cross body bags and contrast it with velvet suiting for a sartorial moment and you have the picture. Freedom of expression is the message here at Etro, alongside hope and optimism. It was spirited and joyful and sensitive – everything we want in 2021.
