Ermenegildo Zegna Milan SS16

Ermenegildo Zegna is all about fabric. Sounds daft to say that, because isn’t all this stuff made out of cloth? But Zegna loom their own and are immensely proud of the innovations possible therein. That’s the challenge Stefano Pilati faces – and pulls off, season after season: how to weave newness in fabric and in fashion into Zegna’s superlative suiting tradition. He suffixes this label “Couture” – which has always been a laboratory for ideas. Maybe that lab idea is why Pilati closed with all-whites? There were certainly plenty of ideas – maxi madras checks, lightweight mixes of black and colour-brushed greys, a new slouched trouser shape, and lots of lovely fabric. Of course.
