Emporio Armani Launches A Sustainable Collection

Last week, the United Nations delivered a ‘final warning’ regarding the climate crisis, noting that the window of opportunity for a future that’s livable – at the very least – is rapidly coming to a close. To be frank, it’s terrifying that we’re as far gone as experts say. Now, more than ever before, sustainable practices are imperative – especially within the fashion industry where mass-production, environmental pollution (by chemicals, microfibres and entire garments), water waste and a lack of ethics are becoming the four-horsemen of a pending apocalypse. Enter the Emporio Armani SS23 Sustainable Collection; a vivacious and joyful capsule catalysed by the brand’s desire to take an increasingly sustainable approach to its output. It’s a versatile, oversized selection defined by powerful, effervescent colours that’s inspired by far away, undiscovered, untamed worlds. Crafted solely using organic and recycled materials, the Earth’s warm tones blend with the blues and greens of the forest and melt into exclusive tribal-influenced patterns.

For both the Emporio man and woman, hooded jackets, button-up tunics, tees, dungarees and all the other works of a complete wardrobe make use of natural fibres from organic agriculture produced without the use of GMOs or harmful pesticides and using processes that improve soil fertility: on top of the garb we’ve already mentioned, there are also vests, jeans, jumpers, trackies, shorts, skirts, bucket hats, hoodies, drawstring trousers and even an assortment of trainers.

Being sustainable isn’t just about the choice of materials used in a collection, but the production process and garment workers as well. For this collection Emporio Armani recruited Artisan Fashion, the first social enterprise set-up under the U.N. Ethical Fashion Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa that employs local artisans, to work in collaboration with the atelier. There, the craftswomen at Artisan Fashion in Kenya created an exclusive line of limited-edition shopper bags, receiving fair wages and the opportunity to change their lives, in exchange for their skills and hard work.
