So technically, for his debut as the creative director of Emilio Pucci, Massimo Giorgetti didn’t present a cruise collection. It was a pilot episode. The Pilot Episode in fact. The only difference between this pilot and an actual pilot being that Massimo has already been signed up for the next episode and the one after. The next episode being in September where the new Pucci vision will take shape. But what is this new vision. Does it sizzle in the same va-va-voom way? Well, there are no slits here, but sizzle it does. Think of this as a more subtle, a more quirky take on sexy. Inspired by Florence, the home of Pucci, it’s a homage to the heritage of the brand, a collection of archival prints reworked for a new generation. To quote Amanda Lear, “this is my alphabet.
Because time goes on, and things are changing in my world, here is a new alphabet, for the children of my generation. Of course all these words have a meaning for me, but other generations might find a different mood to their world”. The mood here is more quirky, more playful, the prints graphic in a palette of oddly mismatched colours, that obviously work, with a certain jet set proportion that harks back to the days of seventies jet setting ladies. Think liquid, fluted skirts and prim blouses with oversized cuffs. It’s a little asymmetrical in places, with shaggy fringe and tufts of marabou in others. It’s sexy in that buttoned up, what lies beneath way. Most importantly, it’s youthful and fun.
