There’s a few white suits that are truly iconic. There’s the backward Celine Dion wore tO the 1999 Oscars, designed by John Galliano. There’s Bianca Jagger’s white silk tux she wore to all those wild Studio 54 nights. And then there’s the Michael Jackson white suit from the Thriller album cover. A perfectly dishevelled 1980s power-suit silhouette, worn with a barely-done black shirt and a baby tiger climbing onto Jackson’s leg – this was the look that made the rounds. That was 1982, and the suit was BOSS.
Now, it’s 2018 and BOSS are releasing a super-limited edition of an updated white suit as an homage to what would be the famous singer’s 60th birthday. The cut is ever-so-slightly modernised, and worn with a white collarless shirt, but still very Jackson – it’s the late-summer suit you need in your closet. And no, you don’t need a wedding to wear it to. Simply slip into your white BOSS suit, and head on over to see Michael Jackson: On The Wall exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. In case you’re not so sure about pulling off a white suit in daytime (even though there’s no reason you shouldn’t), you’re still covered. BOSS is also launching a set of three limited edition MJ t-shirts, with one of them featuring artwork by British artist Graham Dolphin whose piece is currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery. Talk about a full circle. Go on then, beat it! And by it, we mean all the MJ fans frantically shopping on hugoboss.com.
The BOSS Michael Jackson capsule collection is available now online and in the brand’s Regent Street store.
