The regal opulence of Edward Crutchley’s namesake label is rooted in the designer’s deft ability to collide historical dress with slick, modern flair. A stark contrast to his iridescent SS23 collection unleashed back in September, this season mainly came in black, white and grey hues, as the designer collided garments dating as far back as the Middle Ages with meaty-shouldered tailoring, elevated tracksuits and oversized V-neck jumpers.
Appearing throughout were a mischievous group of cartoons, adopted from a colouring book released in 1565. These were met with silk ruffled trousers inspired by a look from 1523 that appeared in Augsburg’s The Book of Clothes.
A cheeky codpiece thong and bra took the gongs for the show’s most ‘grammable moments, but the star power really lies in Crutchley’s romantic silhouettes and his use of lavish fabrics, including textured wool jacquards and patchwork taffeta. You can’t help but be thoroughly impressed.
