Have you ever dreamed of going to a boarding school? According to most of my friends who actually did go, it’s not always as fun of an experience as St. Trinians might suggest. But Dean and Dan Caten don’t care about the harsh reality – in fact, they never really did. They have a power of turning reality into fantasy through their Dsquared2 collections, always carrying through with a sense of child-like positivity. And so, for Pre-fall 2020, we’re enrolling into the Dsquared2 boarding school which is situated somewhere between the English countryside, Milanese streets and Canadian mountains. Combining collegiate dress codes with sportswear and outdoors-y elements, the Catens are re-structuring tradition in new and inspiring ways, merging their men’s and womenswear with their unique sensibility.
New meets old, conservative meets sexy, night meets day. As always, the house of Dsquared2 celebrates extremities and all that happens when you put the two worlds together. Naughty schoolgirls and boys share their wardrobes as they combine suiting with puffer jackets and rugby shirts. It’s all still quintessentially Dsquared2 and harmoniously mish-mashed – the classic yellow rubber boots have Lady Neophitou-height heels, and your dad’s classic checked coat comes covered in patches. Colour-blocking primary shades are enriched with eclectic prints, including “God save the queens” written over a graphic of a dragon. This is a seasonal update on the brand’s classics, with each individual piece easily incorporated into your wardrobe. Punks, prepsters or jocks – it doesn’t really matter what clique you’re part of. You can indeed sit with us, as long as you’re wearing Dsquared2.
