If images could sing, these would be chanting from the top of their lungs: “Oh, Canada! Our home and native land.” It’s Dsquared2’s latest collection, smelling of fresh maple syrup and frosted in fresh snow. Stepping into the Pre-Fall 2019 season, it’s wood cabin fever time as Dean and Dan Caten’s retro vision of Canadiana (that’s like Americana but Canadian) comes into the limelight. And oh, how bright this limelight shines. An extensive collection of wearable clothes reminiscent of the designer’s cultural heritage takes a trip back to 1970-something, when maxi tartan skirts were worn with chunky high boots and denim was in abundance. But despite this Brady Bunch-esque references, the collection looks youthful and contemporary – all things one would expect from Dsquared2.
And while the girls are very much living their vintage fantasy, the boys are more about the street life. In addition to the signature tartan and denim, there’s eye-catching graphic prints and in-your-face snow boots forming their modern silhouette. An evening section is also here for your consideration, with sleek tuxes (both men’s and women’s) and high-glam party lewks served on the platter. A little Dsquared2 party never hurt nobody, eh?
