New street womenswear dedicated space in the basement
New Year, old us, but a brand new Dover Street Market London. After being closed for a few days for their usual seasonal makeover, Dover Street Market reopened this past Saturday with a whole bunch of fabulous novelties. The list is oh, so long that it would be impossible to name all the exciting pieces, so we won’t do that. Instead, we’re bringing you our favourite new bits, on display and ready for your spendings as of right now.
Down in the basement of 18-22 Haymarket, a spicy red corner popped up, holding a new generation of womenswear brands that are reflecting the streetwear vibes the downstairs of DSM is known for. Marine Serre, Charlotte Knowles and Asai are all there, but make sure to go shopping sooner rather than later as a big number of pieces has already been sold out.
Up two sets of stairs and onto the first floor, a brand new permanent display holds John Galliano’s SS19 designs for Maison Margiela, with the muslin-covered set reflecting their signature lab-coat uniforms. But that’s not it for the French house – the second floor also holds a temporary pop-up dedicated to the cult of the brand’s famous Tabi boot with a whole variety of styles (sparkly ones too!) exclusive to Dover Street Market. Just few steps away is another new permanent space – London’s favourite Kiko Kostadinov brought his crafty world into the retail space thanks to the installation created in collaboration with art duo OrtaMiklos. And then on the top floor, a good old DSM favourite, Molly Goddard, transformed her few squares into a mini market. Reflecting her SS19 catwalk set, the shopping-ready installation was created by her mother and set designer Sarah Edwards. Family matters, even in retail….
