If this season’s Dolce & Gabbana girl was a film character, she would be Elena, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, in The Mask of Zorro. For unlike Domenico and Stefano’s recent collections, Spain not Sicily was the place of inspiration, more specifically, the country’s national pastimes of bullfighting and flamenco. Red was the dominant colour, reflecting the blood of the bullring, the red of flamenco dresses and the red carnation – Domenico’s mother’s favourite flower. The finale saw Dolce and Gabbana’s matadoras march out in loose-sleeved, unbuttoned white shirts tucked into high-waisted embroidered red shorts. We wouldn’t have been surprised to see her jump on the back of Zorro’s horse, Elena-style, and gallop into the sunset.
